Traders at Ebute Metta Plank Market, popularly known as Oke Baba, Lagos on Wednesday, fled their shops to safety as the market went up in flames.
Reports say that hundreds of wooden structures have been destroyed in the inferno while numerous residents in adjoining houses sustained injuries while attempting to flee.
Eyewitnesses report that the fire erupted along Coates Street end.
The incident has caused heavy traffic gridlock in the neighbourhood as well as roads leading to the Third Mainland Bridge.

As at the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire is still not known.
