There is jubilation among the Yorubas since news of the release of their passionate freedom fighter and leader of the Yoruba Nation, Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho hit the air waves.

The activist was arrested in the Republic of Benin, 7 months ago on his way to Germany with his wife. He was thereafter detained in the West African country.

Reports say he was fleeing to Germany, the wife’s home country for refuge after Nigerian authorities declared him wanted.

Reports started filtering in since Thursday last week that Igboho would be released soon.

The speculations, however, ended on Monday after lawyers confirmed Igboho was released on certain conditions.

The conditions are not too tough. He won’t hold any rally and can’t leave Cotonou,” one of the lawyers said.

The comment is coming after the umbrella body of Yoruba Self-determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, announced Igboho’s release.

However, counsel for the activist, Chief Yomi Aliyyu (SAN) said Igboho’s release was facilitated by two prominent Yoruba citizens.

He stated that the respected personalities include Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka and Prof Akintoye.

Aliyyu, added that part of the condition given for the release of the activist was that he must not leave the medical centre or travel out of Cotonou.
