Diplomatic Grouse: Nigeria shuns World Economic Forum, Oby Ezekwesili, Jim Ovia Under Fire

Following the violence against its citizens, Nigeria and some other African countries like Malawi, Rwanda and DR Congo have boycotted the ongoing World Economic Forum going on in South Africa.

However, Oby Ezekwesili and Jim Ovia who attended the forum have been criticised for not boycotting the meeting in their capacities as renowned Nigerian citizens.

Some of their aids defended their action saying they went there in their personal capacities and not as Nigeria’s representatives.

Both Nigerians were panelists at the summit notwithstanding the diplomatic protests by the Nigerian government and citizens.

Some Nigerians on social media have expressed delight in not supporting Ezekwesili’s presidential ambition as according to twitter and facebook posts, she would would have been a sell-out.

Mrs Oby Ezekwesili was a presidential candidate at the 2019 general elections under the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria while Jim Ovia is the founder and chairman of Zenith Bank PLC.
