Former Minister Dies as 2023 Political Jostling Peaks

A former Minister who held several cabinet positions has passed away as jostling for the 2023 elections peaks.

The death of Chief Olawale Adeniji Ige, who passed on aged 83 comes as the nation witnesses mass resignation of ministers ahead of the deadline for resignations for anyone seeking elective office.

The ex-minister’s daughter, Atinuke Olashore on Monday, May 9, announced her father’s passing in a statement.

Before his death, he held several leadership positions in the public service, including the minister of communications.

In 1992, he was Nigeria’s Minister of Transport, Aviation, and Communications.

From 1999 to 2010 the octogenarian was a member of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and pioneer Director of Digital Bridge Institute, Abuja.

He was the first chairman of Nigeria Internet Group and also a member of the First World Telecommunications Advisory Group of the International Telecommunications Union with headquarters in Geneva.

The former minister who was born in 1938 began his career with the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation, Ibadan as an engineering assistant in 1957. He later left the country for United kingdom in 1961 to study Electrical Engineering.
