Decomposed Corpse on Runway: Lagos Airport Shut Down

News - Women's Perspective

Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), on Thursday, temporarily shut down the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, over the discovery of a mangled decomposed corpse on the runway.

Reports say that the corpse was found on runway 18R of the country’s flagship airport located in the Ikeja area of the state.

The discovery of the mangled body of a yet to be identified man led to the temporary shutdown of the runway which allowed FAAN officials and the Nigeria Police Force to evacuate the corpse from the runway.

It is alleged that the temporary closure of the runaway prevented the take-off and landing of some foreign carriers such as an Ethiopian airline which departed from Lomé in Togo and headed to Lagos airport.

The flight was later diverted back to Lome due to the unfortunate incident at the Lagos airport.

According to reports, the corpse was suddenly found on Runway 18R during a routine runway inspection by FAAN personnel.

However, in a chat with the Nigerian Tribune, a spokesperson for FAAN, Faithful Hope-Ibaze, said the corpse was found on the runway around the cargo area.

She added that the police are still investigating the mystery behind the mangled body and how he got to the security area of the international airport.
