Reactions have trailed the presence of a large aircraft around the airport area on the Lagos – Abeokuta expressway.
The aircraft was being conveyed on a low-bed trailer on Tuesday afternoon.
It took up a large part of the expressway, causing traffic gridlock as motorists struggled to manoeuvre their way and pedestrians also stood by to watch.
Explaining the presence of the plane, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said it was not a crash-landed aircraft contrary to several trending reports on social media.
In a statement on its official Twitter account, FAAN said the plane was sold by its original owner and was been transported to its final destination.
The authority, however, urged residents of Lagos to disregard reports about a plane crash.
The statement:
Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria @FAAN_Official
“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria would like to inform the general public to disregard the news making the rounds on social media about an alleged crash at Ikeja Airport.
“The aircraft was sold by the owner to a buyer, who was taking it to its final destination.
“Thank You“
However, some Nigerians have taken to social media to air their views on the presence on the development.
Da Mayor of Tweet CityΒ I don’t think some of you know what it means for a commercial aircraft to crash land on a road, not on any road but a busy road and not just any busy road but a busy road in Ikeja, Lagos. DFKM
