The former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, has withdrawn from contesting the Nasarawa State governorship race.

The former deputy governor announced his withdrawal from the race shortly after the commencement of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary elections in the state.

He was at the venue of the PDP primary election in Nasarawa, Toto Local Government Area with other party chieftains when he made the announcement after a critical meeting with stakeholders of the party.

While speaking about his withdrawal from the race, Maku noted that after wider consultations with friends, political associates and family members he decided to withdraw his ambition to contest the primary election.

When asked whether there were other reasons for his withdrawal, he refused to speak further. He only said the reason was best known to him, noting that his official statement of his withdrawal will be made available soon.

Also, when asked his opinion on the process of the primary election that is ongoing the former minister said, ‘No Comment.’

Meanwhile, all three Aspirants, Mr Labaran Maku, Mr David Ombugadu and General Nuhu Amgbazu (Rtd) had agreed to work together to defeat the incumbent governor, Abdullah I Sule.

Maku had dumped the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in April 2022 and returned to the PDP.

The politician, at that time, told newsmen in Lagos that he decided to return to PDP because of his people in Nasarawa.

Labaran Maku was a minister during ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure.

He dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in 2015 after he failed to secure the governorship ticket.

Maku was the deputy governor of Nassarawa state from 2003 to 2007, where he assumed leadership responsibilities of governing State Agencies and Institutions.
