JUST IN ! Hoodlums Invade Lagos Catholic Church, Cart Away Valuables

Men suspected to be hoodlums on Friday invaded a Catholic Church in Lagos and carted away valuable materials and machines used by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registrations.

The event happened at the St. Bridget Catholic Church which is located in ljesha, Surulere area of Lagos.

Vanguard reports that the Parish Priest had locked up the church while people at the scene reportedly scampered for safety.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State had declared Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday as work-free days to allow all public workers to register and collect their PVCs before the deadline date of July 30, 2022.

In a statement signed by the Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, the Governor said that workers on Grade Levels 01, 03, 07, and 15 would be exempted from work on Tuesday while Wednesday is for those on GL 02, 04, 08, and 13; Thursday is for GL 05, 09, 12 and 17; while Friday is for GL 06, 10, 14 and 16.

“Officers are expected to return back to work with their voter cards after this exercise, accordingly, accounting officers are hereby enjoined to excuse their officers in the respective grade levels on the designated dates,” he said.

He added that it is the civic responsibility of every citizen to participate in the electoral process of his/her country, far that reason all public servants are encouraged to partake in the upcoming year 2023 general elections.
