Barrister Aminu Tambuwal, the Executive Governor of Sokoto State and Former PDP Presidential Aspirant, has issued an important statement on the school where, Deborah Samuel, a student was gruesomely murdered.
Tambuwal, in the statement, approved the reopening of the Shehu Shagari College Of Education [SSCOE].
This follows a report of the committee set up by the state government to investigate the incident that occurred on the 12th of May, 2022 when some Muslim irate student went on rampage.
During the protest over a case of blasphemy, a Christian girl identified as Miss Samuel was burnt to death for making comments considered derogatory regarding Prophet Muhammed.
A few days later, Governor Tambuwal directed the Governing Council of the SSCOE to convene a meeting with a view to reopening the college soonest.
He also assured residents of the state that the government will implement the recommendations of the committee, reiterating his belief that doing so will prevent any future occurrence not only in the affected college but in all tertiary institutions in the state.
Tambuwal directed that students should:
- Resume on the 8th of August, 2022
- Sign an undertaking of good behaviour on arrival in the school premises
- Continue their exams on the 15th of August
- End exams on the 3rd of September
The timetable was signed by the school register.
