Fact Check: Obi Gave the Precise Length of River Nile, Rufai Confirmed (video)

News - Women's Perspective

A video making the rounds online has captured the moment the labor party presidential aspirant, Peter Obi spoke about how to control the devastating flood in Nigeria

While speaking with Rufai Oseni on how the two prominent rivers in Nigeria, the River Niger, and the River Benue, can be deployed to put an end to the menace, Obi used River Nile in Egypt as an Example.

While speaking about the River Nile, he mentioned the length and Rufai Oseni, who wasn’t too sure, told him to give him a moment to verify and after a few seconds, he said Obi was correct that the river is 6650 kilometers

Peter Obi said;

A lot of contracts have been awarded to be able to stop the flooding which nobody can account for today. If we put two rivers ( Niger and Benue )together, They will be able to contribute what River Nile is contributing to Egypt and I think River Nile is about 6650km long. I think Niger is about 4184km and River Benue is 1400km. These two put together are about 1000km shorter than the Nile. If Egypt can keep the Nile and it is contributing to their economy, why can’t we do the same”
