Identities of Some Kidnapped Edo Train Station Victims Released

The identities of some of the victims of the kidnap operation unleashed on staff and passengers at a train station in the Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State has been released.

Reports emerged on Saturday night that gunmen invaded the station and abducted no less than 32 victims.

The incident has been widely condemned by the Federal Government, state government and prominent persons in the country.

Chris Nehikhare, Commissioner for Communication and Orientation in the state, confirmed the attack during a press conference on Sunday.

Nehikhare disclosed that immediately after the victims were Kidnapped, the state’s security apparatus swung into action.

He added that the efforts yielded a result as one of the suspected kidnappers was arrested.

The Commissioner further confirmed that 32 persons were abducted in the attack and that one of the victims reportedly escaped.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, while speaking on the incident said that the abductors were herdsmen, who invaded the train station with AK 47 assault rifles.

Nwabuzor identified some people abducted in the incident as the train station manager, Godwin Okpe, the Head of Security, identified simply as Ikhayere, an Igueben community resident, Victor Osarobho and the station ticket clerk, also identified as Akhere.
