News - Women's Perspective

The Chairman of UBA Group and Heirs Holdings, Tony Elumelu has debunked reports that President Bola Tinubu is considering making him the substantive governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The information came after Imran Muhammad, a supporter of former President Muhammadu Buhari, via a post on the microblogging platform, X to say that, “President Tinubu is also considering Tony O. Elumelu as CBN governor.”

Elumelu, Tinubu

Reacting to the post on Friday, Elumelu said it was false news. He replied: “LOL. No, please. This is false news!”

The billionaire banker debunked reports of being appointed CBN governor days after visiting Tinubu at Aso Villa, Abuja.

Speaking on the purpose of his visit, Elumelu said his discussion with Tinubu was private. He, however, declared that leaders in the private sector are encouraged by the government’s policies.

He said, “The private sector is encouraged by the bold decisions of President Bola Tinubu and we hope that in the fullness of time, Nigerians will benefit.

It’s all about Nigerian people, it’s all about youths, it’s all about making sure our women are involved and empowered. It’s about making sure our youths get jobs and I think Mr. President has this at the back of his mind.”
