Nigerian youths, on Monday took to the streets of Ikeja in Lagos State to protest the allocation of Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to lawmakers in the National Assembly.

In a video shared on the X platform, the youths held placards with various inscriptions: ‘Public funds not for luxury of a few’, ‘Stop NASS car purchase.’

The leadership of the National Assembly had announced the decision to purchase imported SUVs for each lawmaker and bulletproof vehicles for the principal officers running for over millions.

The move has generated heavy criticism, with many lampooning the parliamentarians for being insensitive to the plight of Nigerians amid the high cost of living.

Lawmakers in the Green Chamber have started taking delivery of their Sports Utility Vehicles.

Similarly, legislators in the Red Chamber will receive the first batch of the SUVs this week.
