Boko Haram Fighters Ambush Governor Buni’s Convoy, Injure Several

Daredevil bandits suspected to be Boko Haram fighters, on Saturday, ambushed the convoy of the Governor of Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni.

The attack is reported to have occurred while the Governor was returning from Borno State.

No less than 6 security personnel attached to Governor Buni are said to be injured in the ambush.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the terrorists fired at the security operatives in the convoy of the Governor along the Jakana-Mainok expressway.

Buni is said to have been in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital earlier in the day to attend the 24th combined convocation ceremony of the University of Maiduguri.

Other dignitaries were also in attendance.

The Governor and his entourage who were accompanied by Borno Governor, Babagana Zulum, departed to Abuja through the Air Force Base in Maiduguri.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama, that security vehicles in the convoy came under fire between Jakana to Mainok expressway.

The sources said that troops leading the convoy with MRAP, a Gun Truck and another vehicle conveying the Police and DSS were shot at.

Consequently, the troops responded with heavy fire, forcing the terrorists to retreat.

Unfortunately, two soldiers including a driver and four policemen were wounded.

The number of casualties among the terrorists is not known.

The security operatives returned safely to Yobe while the wounded personnel were taken to the hospital for treatment.
