Stories from the heart

Suleiman Tanimu, a resident of Zangai community in Kankara local government area of Katsina State, has narrated his ordeal in the hands of bandits who abducted him just two days before Eid El Kabir Sallah celebration.

According to Sahara Reporters on Friday, Tanimu said that he was forcefully taken from his home at midnight by seven assailants, subjected to physical assault, and held captive for three days.

He said that while in the hands of the abductors, they (captors) demanded ransom from his family and subjected him to harsh conditions, including limited food and water.

He said that the bandits asked him if his parents were wealthy, and when he told them that they were not, one of the bandits suggested that they should leave him behind, but another one said that they must go with him.

He said, “They stormed into my room in Zangai, beating me with a gun before ordering me to go with them.”

Speaking further, “When they asked if my parents were wealthy, I told them no. One of the bandits argued for leaving me since my parents had no money, while another insisted on taking me to their hideout.”

He said that some days, the bandits gave him food and water just once, and on other days, they gave him nothing at all.

In response to rising insecurity challenges, Zamfara State has introduced a ban on nighttime motorcycle operations across all 14 local government areas, effective July 15, 2024.

Governor Dauda Lawal said that the ban aims to enhance security measures and mitigate the rising insecurity in the state.
