The embattled Head of the IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Abba Kyari was recognized with a sterling achievement award in 2018 by Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari.
Reports say that the suspended super cop received the award at the Presidential Villa in Abuja for his role in solving some of the biggest cases in the country.
Mrs Buhari, who presented the plaque to the former IRT commander, said the award is “in appreciation and recognition of Kyari’s gallantry and diligent role in curbing crime in Nigeria”.
Also in 2018, the Deputy Commissioner of Police was honoured by Silverbird Television, a private television station, with the ‘hero of the year’ award.
At the event, Kyari was awarded a plaque for his role in curbing crime in the country by former Governor of Anambra State and former vice presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
The indicted officer was, in 2020 also honoured with a standing ovation and a plaque by the House of Representatives.
Sadly, four years after the super cop was celebrated for his services there have been numerous allegations levelled against him.
He has been linked with Hushpuppi, a self-confessed internet fraudster. He was invited by the FBI for interrogation.
While that is still on the table, the NDLEA caught him red-handed in a narcotics transaction.
He was arrested and detained on Monday.
