President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari as his new Chief of Staff (CoS).
This follows the death of Abba Kyari who died in April following complications from coronavirus disease.
A diplomat and scholar, 76-year old Professor Gambari was Minister for External Affairs between 1984 and 1985. Reports say the exercise to select him was rigorous and painstaking considering how well the form CoS performed and the need for a perfect fit.
Some of Gambari’s credentials:
- Chairperson of the Joint African Union – Unied Nations Special Representative for Darfur from January 1, 2010
- Special Adviser on the International Compact with Iraq and Other Issues for Secretary-General of the United Nations.
- Under-Secretary-General (USG) of the United Nations for the Department of Political Affairs (DPA) effective July 1 2005
- Pioneer Chancellor of the Kwara State University effective March 2013, an appointment by the Kwara State Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed. Hi appointment has given the institution the needed international boost and recognition.
- Co-chair, Albright-Gambari Commission
Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari is an alumnus of Kings College Lagos. He also attended the London School of Economics graduating with a B.Sc in Economics and majoring in International Relations.
Other degrees include M.A (1970) and Ph.D (1974) in Political Science and International Relations from Columbia University, New York, United States of America.
