AGF Malami Rejects Dialogue with UK Government over Nnamdi Kanu

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami is reported to have rejected moves by the UK to dialogue on the arrest of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The attempts to discuss the issue is said to have been made by the UK High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing.

Nnamdi Kanu holds Nigerian and UK passports but lives mostly in the UK from where he directs the operations of IPOB mostly through social media and Radio Biafra.

He uses the media to field calls for the actualisation of the sovereign state of Biafra.

A spokesperson for the British High Commission in Nigeria, Der Hurlock had told TheCable that the UK is ‘in the process of seeking clarification” from the federal government regarding Kanu’s arrest.

Unfortunately moves by the UK was not successful when Malami hosted the High Commissioner on Friday in Abuja.

TheCable reports that when Laing brought up the topic, Malami quickly rebuffed her.

A source familiar withe the development said that Malami told Laing that the issue of Kanu’s arrest was “not part of the agenda and we’re not going to discuss it.”

However, according to Malami’s spokesperson, Umar Gwandu, the minister he discussed the ban on Twitter with the minister insisting that Niger was right to ban the use of the platform in Nigeria.

The AGF added tat the nation’s interest far outweighs all other considerations and that any company operating in Nigeria must understand this.

According to him, “If you want to operate as a business entity in Nigeria, you must do so within the context of Nigerian laws. Nothing offensive or that breaches the Nigerian laws should be entertained.”

Malami and his guest then discussed bilateral issues on asset recovery, anti-corruption crusade, amendment of the electoral act, the audit bill, petroleum industry bill, and counter-terrorism.
