Nigerian airports may be re-opening soon. Ahead of the resumption of operations, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria is currently fumigating the 3 major international airports.
The airports include Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.
General Manager, Corporate Affairs of FAAN made the announcement in a statement today, 19th May. According to her, the exercise is geared towards preventing the spread of the dreaded coronavirus disease.
She added that she does not have any information about how soon the airports would report but the authorities were taking the proactive measures ahead of the resumption.
In her words, “this is to ensure the safety of passengers and other airport users when the airports eventually re-open.
“In March this year, the authority embarked on a similar exercise of disinfection and fumigation.”
Travellers have indeed begun agitating for the resumption of flight operations and appear to devise means of putting pressure on the authorities.
One such traveller is Tolu Ayo who circulated travel guidelines purported issued by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.
Henretta Yakubu has however, distanced FAAN from the advisory saying that in as much as FAAN is preparing travel guidelines, none has been released yet. She therefore enjoined “all travellers and the general public to disregard the content of the said release.”
In a May 6 PTF Covid19 briefing, the task force chairman, Boss Mustafa announced a 4 week extended flight ban. This means that by about the 6th of June, the airports re-opening will likely commence.
