Airports to Re-open in Nigeria

Airline Passengers Stranded As Aviation Workers Begin Strike

Some airports in Nigeria are to re-open by the 3rd week of June for domestic flights.

The federal government announced that only 5 of the nation’s airports will open operations by the 21st of June. The rest will remain closed for proper evaluation. Once the evaluations are satisfactory, they will be considered.

However, international flights remain suspended as Nigerian airspace will not permit landing or take off.

The announcement was made in a memo sent to airlines and confirmed by the Director General, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Musa Nuhu.

The domestic airports to re-open in Nigeria include:

  1. Omagwa International Airport, Port Harcourt
  2. Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja
  3. Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos
  4. Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri
  5. Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano

 

The memo to airlines reads in part that,

“The gradual start of domestic flight operations will commence on the 21st of June, 2020 with f Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport ,  Abuja,, Abuja; Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos; Malam Aminu Kano International Aiport, Kano, Omaggwa International Aiport, Port Harcourt; and Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri.
