The recently commissioned Anambra International Airport has received federal government approval to commence operations.
The approval is contained in a letter dated 1st of December, 2021 and addressed to the Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano.
The approval was signed by Captain Musa Nuhu, Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
With the approval, the International Passenger/Cargo Airport is cleared for commercial flight operations with effect from the 2nd of December, 2021.
Captain Nuhu stated that the NCAA received security clearance from relevant security agencies for the opening of the airport.
The initial date of opening being the 30th of October, 2021, requested by Governor Obiano was not granted due to adverse security reports.
According to Captain Musa Nuhu, “The Authority was unable to grant His Excellency’s request (for the opening on October 30, 2021), due to adverse security reports.
“However, I now wish to inform His Excellency that NCAA has received clearance from relevant security agency approving the opening of Anambra International Cargo Airport for flight operations.”
The letter further stated that in the interim, Category B aircrafts are permitted to take off and lan at the airport.
