Angry youths from Epie and Atissa kingdoms in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State today, Saturday, staged a massive protest on major roads.
One of the protesters say they are demanding justice for the killing of one their leaders from Biogbolo-Epie community.
Reports say that the victim, Goodluck Oviekeme Izigwe died in the custody of the police.
The youths Blocked the Biogbolo-Epie section of the Miami-Yenegoa Road and the Isaac Boko Expressway with canopies, tyres and logs of wood, preventing vehicular movement.
The deceased was accused of carrying out attacks on police patrol teams in the state.
The Police spokesperson in Bayelsa State, SP Asinim Butswat confirmed the death and said that the commissioner of police, Mr Echeng E Echeng has ordered a thorough investigation and autopsy to determine the cause of Izigwe’s death.
According to him, “The suspect was arrested in connection with the armed robbery incident that occurred on 21 September, 2021, at Biogbolo, Yenagoa when hoodlums attacked a police patrol team, fatally injured Inspector Ugbotor Sunday and carted away his rifle.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that Goodluck Oviekeme was the mastermind of the attack on the patrol team.
“He was arrested on 22 September, 2021 at about 0300 hours, while in Police custody, the suspect was observed to be running high temperature and was rushed to the hospital where he eventually died
“The CP condoles with the family of the deceased and assures the general public that an investigation has commenced and the outcome will be made known to the public,” the police spokesman said.
