Another Container Crushes 2 Women in Lagos

Another container has crushed 2 women to death in Lagos. The incident happened yesterday, 21st of August at the Ijeshatedo area of Lagos.

According to the Director of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, a distress call was received around 9:45pm on Friday regarding a fallen container around Odo-Olowu Bus Stop.

He said that the truck was conveying the 40ft container when it experienced break failure and rammed into a stationary commercial truck. The impact tipped the container causing it to roll over and fall on the commercial truck.

According to Osanyintolu, responders rescued the driver of the truck and took him to a nearby hospital in a LASEMA ambulance.

He added that the container crushed 2 women who died on the spot.

Earlier in the month, a container crushed a bride-to-be in the Ajah area of Lagos. Prior to that incident, another container also crushed 2 friends at Ilasamaja also in Lagos. Chima and Chidinma were on their way from work when they met their untimely death.

News Agency of Nigeria reports that after numerous incidences of fallen containers in Lagos and other parts of the country, the Federal Road Safety Corps has launched Operation Scorpion II. The operation aims to arrest and prosecute drivers of articulated haulers with unlatched containers.
