State Police Amotekun Goes Beyond Call of Duty, Arrests for Flimsy Reason

Another Headache as Amotekun Goes Beyond Call of Duty, Arrests for Flimsy Reasons

News - Women's Perspective

The Western Nigeria regional security outfit, Amotekun has gone beyond the call of duty.

Residents of Osun State state complain that the security personnel arrest residents for the flimsiest of reasons.

The reasons range from not being able to communicate fluently in Yoruba Language to dressing indecently.

The gun wielding personnel scare people as they parade the streets of the state.

This comes as Nigerians struggle to heal from the wounds of the #EndSARS shootings and harassments.

@Riiquequeen like many residents of Western Nigeria demands to know their precise scope of duties of Amotekun,

She asks one of the governors of the states where the security personnel operate in considering that she is worried by their recent excesses.

According to her, “@seyiamakinde@oyostategovt@FeedbackOYSG what exactly is the briefs and scope of duties for the Amotekun?

“Can they check drivers license? Do house searches? Can they cut hair? Censor tattoos? Strip naked? Deliver lashes of the whip? What exactly are they to do?”

· “The Osun Regional Head of Amotekun says they will not “tolerate” indecent dressing or incorrect speaking of Yoruba language. Who defines “indecent dressing”? What’s “incorrect” Yoruba? Amotekun is yet to kick off but as their name implies, they are already talking like animals.”
