It was yet another honour for the Delta State-born John Okelue Okpoli, Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer of Asteric Management Limited.
The serial entrepreneur and philanthropist was inducted into the Catholic noble and ancient Order of the Knights of St John International (KSJI) on the 26th of March, 2021.
Very close friends of the amiable lover of the underprivileged recently chose to celebrate him in a private but cosy environment. They however, pleaded with the press to keep it very private.
The Knights of St John International was established in Nigeria on June 6th 1976 to foster the growth of fraternity in the Catholic Church and among the Catholic brethren.
When asked to throw more light on the objective of an investiture into the knighthood, Chief Okelue Okpoli simply answered that,
“The investiture of the knighthood is a call to use one’s treasure, time and talent for the glory of mankind, the church, humanity and society at large. It is a call to serve both man and God with humility”.
Catholic faithful say that in the Catholic church, being a knight is a dedication to the service of God, it also entails upholding and defending the Catholic faith.
For young Chief Okpoli, it is really not a time to merry as it is a call to service. He was therefore surprised with the presence of pressmen who followed him to the occasion.
“A Catholic Knight engages in charity, chastity, assisting the needy, indigent and less privileged in society.”

Okpoli has adopted several indigent communities in Delta and Edo States where he privately sponsors the empowerment of widows and orphans.
Based in Lagos, each time he visits his adopted constituencies, crowds of his beneficiaries troop out in their numbers to welcome him. Many hang out anywhere he visits knowing that they will not go home without at least a few days’ meal or business startup funds for them and their family members.
