Another resident of Park View Estate in the highbrow neighborhood of Ikoyi, Lagos, nearly lost her life to her househelp a few days ago.
David Edevbie’s wife Ronke would have been the latest victim of the killer-househelp syndrome that seems to have laid siege to estate.
The m*rderous attack happened barely one month after Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia lost her only daughter to k!ller domestic helps in the same estate.
According to a very reliable source who is aware of the incident, Mrs Edevbie had employed the services of a cook/steward. The newly engaged cook reached out to her after allegedly learning from the grapevine that she had terminated the employment of her previous cook/steward.
This newly employed cook who was given a place to stay at her boys’ quarters, was engaged while her husband, a former principal secretary to late President Musa Yar’adua and a former gubernatorial candidate candidate in Delta State on the platform of People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) was away from home.
A few days after, she was to go on a scheduled trip with her very good friend, Bamidele Abiodun, the First Lady of Ogun State. Also, before the planned trip, Mrs Edevbie ate a meal prepared by the new cook and shortly after began to feel sick.
Feeling a bit dizzy, she got into bed but not before managing to lock the security door to the upper wing of the house. Whether this act was by instinct or simply a routine procedure is unclear, the source further disclosed.
Mrs Abiodun who was ready for the trip tried to call Mrs Edevbie for them to set out but all efforts to reach her were unsuccessful.
She then reached out to her husband David who on inquiry from his other domestic staff, the gateman, discovered that his wife hadn’t been up all morning talk more of stepping out of her home.
Time was 10am. David, the source continued, urged him to find a way to get to his wife to which the gateman mobilized, got a ladder with which he used to climb into the house and managed to wake up Mrs Edevbie.
The cook, unable to carry out his mission which was to steal, k!ll and destroy, already packed his few belongings and bolted. Mrs Abiodun, according to the source, later arrived at the Edevbie’s residence to take her friend to the hospital for proper medical checkup where it was confirmed that she had been drugged by the cook who was fortunately, unable to carry out his mission.
