The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has ordered its members to commence street protests against the incessant strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU).
The order was issued on Friday by NANS president, Comrade Sunday Asefon who told the students to carry cooking utensils, mattresses and other camping items and occupy the streets of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
The directive was contained in a letter titled, ‘Urgent Notice Of Immediate Commencement Of Mobilisation,’ dated March 25, 2022, and addressed to the zonal coordinators of the union.
The leadership of ASUU, led by Prof Emmanuel Osodeke recently declared a one-month warning strike beginning from February 14 when negotiations with the Federal Government yielded no results.
At the end of the one-month action, another 2 months was declared on the 14th of March over what ASUU described as the failure of the federal government to address its demands and agreements.
National Union of Nigerian Students (NUNS) was a students’ union bringing together Nigerian students both within Nigeria and across the diaspora.
