There are reports that Atiku Abubakar will contest the 2023 presidency.
One of the former Vice President’s son, Adamu Abubakar made the disclosure while presenting the score card for his ministry Adamawa State.
Adamu Abubakar is the Adamawa State Commissioner for Works and Energy in the current administration of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.
According to him, “personally, I don’t see anything wrong with my father contesting for presidency.
In 2023, my father will be aspiring to the number one office in the land because he has been an astute, strategic, master politician for almost four decades.
“Sir, so Atiku is not going to give an Igbo man the opportunity for this position after 24 years of loyalty to the party.”
Some of Atiku ‘s attempts at the presidency:
- In 1993, he contested and lost, coming 3rd place behind MKO Abiola and Babagana Kingibe.
- 2007, INEC removed Atiku’s name from the list of presidential aspirants because, according them, he was indicted for corruption by a panel set up by the government. However, a ruling by the Supreme Court granted him the go ahead to contest. Again he took 3rd position in that election behind Umaru Yara’Adua of the PDP and Muhammadu Buhari of the ANPP.
- In 2019, Atiku contested against the then incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari and came 2nd
There are however, insinuations that come 2023, he will be up against Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a contest that will truly be interesting to watch.
