A video has emerged about the moment a mammoth crowd came out on the streets of Sokoto on Friday to welcome Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal back to town after last weekend’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Primary election.
The crowd besieged the Sultan Abubakar Airport to receive the Governor and his entourage home.
Reports say that the Governor’s convoy was forced to move at snail speed from the airport into the city due to the sheer number of residents that stormed the streets.
The massive crowd sang and danced as they joined the governor’s convoy to the city.
Tambuwal withdrew his presidential ambition and backed that of Atiku Abubakar at the just concluded PDP presidential primary.
Reports and a video how, later emerged that it was an instruction from elders of the state who felt that in order for the north to retain power, one citizen needed to step down for the other.
The elders felt that Atiku stood a better chance than Tambuwal considering the poor performance of the latter in the governance of the state.
Watch the video below:
Former Vice President, Atiku defeated Governor Nyesom Wike, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Governor Bala Mohammed, amongst others.
Tambuwal’s decision to step down for the former Vice President was the masterstroke that helped Atiku get the ticket over Wike, who many had thought would easily coast to victory.
