A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Kelvin Ugwu has sent a word of advice to the police and people working for popular cleric, Apostle Johnson Suleman.
This comes after a gruesome attack by unknown gunmen on Suleman’s convoy as he was returning from a trip on Friday evening.
The assailants opened fire on the vehicle resulting in the deaths of 7 persons while the Apostle who drove himself in a bulletproof SUV escaped unhurt with his family.
Giving details of the incident, Suleman said: “I just escaped an assassination attempt where seven people were killed. My car was attacked, they opened fire on my car and kept spraying it with bullets.
“My wife and my kids were there. The escort car was (of the) police. They killed the policeman, they killed the other people in the escort car and the buses with us.
“7 people who were moving in the convoy were killed. People who did this are expecting me to come out and mention their names, so they’ll come out and deny it. I won’t do that.
“But the truth of the matter is this, you can’t kill me,” the cleric had said while blaming his detractors for the attack.
In his reaction, Fr Kelvin urged those working for Suleman to ensure that they take necessary precautions as it seems the clergyman knows something that is capable of putting them at risk.
He also faulted the testimony of the clergyman, saying it was wrong to “use other people’s misfortune to elevate your their story”.
He pointed out that the life of the Apostle is not more valuable than that of the police officers and civilians who were murdered in the unfortunate attack.
Fr Ugwu said: “I have always said it here, when giving testimonies, be sensitive. Don’t use other people’s misfortune to elevate your own story.
“In their bid to assassinate you, seven persons were killed and you are like “my life is in the hands of God, nobody can kill me.”
“Well, I will not thank God that you survived the assassination, I will rather thank God that you admitted to knowing those that were behind the assassination and shooting.
“I call on the police and the government to take it up from there. The lives of those seven persons matter so much. The minister’s life is not more valuable than theirs. A full investigation should be opened immediately until those behind the shooting are arrested and given what they deserve by law.
“And for those working closely with the minister, I will advice you take necessary precautions because it seems he knows something that is capable of putting you at risk, which you may not be aware of,” Fr Kelvin posted on his verified Facebook page.
