Reports just received say that the author of Nigeria’s National Pledge, Professor Felicia Adebola Adeyoyin is dead.
The information is contained in Monday, 3rd May report by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism.
Adeyoyin is said to have died on Saturday, the 1st of May, after a brief illness. She was aged 83.
The renowned teacher obtained her PhD in 1981 from the University of Lagos. Adeyoyin was a former lecturer at the University of Lagos.
Reports also say she wrote the pledge in July 15, 1976, a script she was motivated to write following questions by her children.
The kids had been used to reciting the Oath of Allegiance while schooling in New York as well as the State Pleadge while at Achimota School, Ghana.
Arise, O Compatriots” is the national anthem of Nigeria.
It was adopted in 1978 and replaced the previous national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee“.
