Famous author, Salman Rushdie has been stabbed while delivering a lecture in the United States.

This is coming after the author received series of death threats over what many considered as his writings.

The novelist, who also wrote ‘The Satanic Verses’ was attacked while preparing to deliver a lecture at the Chautauqua institution in New York.

In a Facebook post, WPXI-TV journalist, David Johnson claimed to have witnessed the incident, stating that a man approached the author on the stage and attacked him in what appeared to be ‘punches or stabs”.

He wrote: “I just witnessed author Salman Rushdie being attacked on stage at the Chautauqua Institution amphitheater. He had just sat down for his talk when a man rushed the stage and attacked him—punching or stabbing him.

The attacker was immediately subdued. We’re waiting to hear Rushdie’s condition.

“I’ve been coming here for 31 years, and this is obviously the most shocking thing I’ve witnessed here. CHQ is one of the most peaceful places you’ll ever see.

“We’re praying for Rushdie’s complete recovery.”

Reactions:

Michael Bueckert: “Canada’s Ambassador to the UN has already tweeted about the attack on Salman Rushdie twice, which is 2 more times than he tweeted about Israel’s war on Gaza (which killed 49 people).”

Aditya Raj Kaul: attacker has been identified as Hadi Matar, 24, of Fairview New Jersey, as per New York State Police. He was apprehended by a Police trooper after the attack. (Iran all over his timeline)”
