The bandits who kidnapped students and teachers of the college of Agriculture and Animal Science, Bakura in Zamfara State have demanded N350 million ransom before they can set their captives free.
The students were captured on Monday after gunmen killed 2 of their security guards in the school.
The incident was confirmed by the Deputy Registrar of the college, Aliyu Bakura in an interview with BBC Hausa.
In another interview with the Punch on telephone, the Provost of the College, Alhaji Habibu Mainasara said that the bandits have called him.
He said that, “I need N350 million for the 20 people currently in captivity.
“They said that the money must be paid before they could release the staff and the students they kidnapped in my school.
However, he did not disclose if the ransom will be paid by the families of the captives or the state government.
On his part, the spokesperson for the state police command, Mohammed Shehu denied any knowledge of the demanded ransom.
According to him, “We are not aware of this development but we are going to do our best to rescue the kidnapped victims.”
