Bandits, this morning, stormed UBE Primary School in Rama village, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State and abducted a yet to be confirmed number of pupils and at least 3 teachers.
A resident of the community, Abdulsalam Adam said that the armed bandits arrived on 12 motorcycles around 9:00am Monday morning soon after the morning assembly and while some students were still arriving the school.
He reports that, “I have been told that 3 teachers and some pupils have been abducted but we are trying to ascertain the true situation.
“Right now, our vigilante boys and other volunteers have gone after the bandits.”
Adam added that “We are in the school right now, what we are trying to do is comb the bushes because some of the children ran into the bush. So, we don’t know how many were abducted at the moment by the bandits.
Another resident of the community, Mai Saje Rama said that, “There is a particular parent, Halilu who said he saw them carrying his son on a motorcycle.
He added that residents of the community who went after the bandits have not yet returned as at the time of this report.
A cheering news later filtered in through a teacher who told Daily Trust that 3 of the pupils who had been kidnapped escaped.
She said that the pupils took the risk when the bandits attempted to rustle some cows and motorcycles while in transit to the forest.
The teacher, Naomi Francis added that the pupils had been beaten by the bandits but have been reunited with thei community.
There is sadly, no information about the three teachers taken with the pupils.
Describing how the bandits entered into the school premises, Ms Francis said that “They came after the morning assembly.
“We had all gone into the classrooms when 6 of the bandits came on motorcycles while others surrounded the school.
“I stepped out from my class and noticed students of primary 5 and 6 running out.
“I immediately alerted my students to run out and they did.”
