A video has surfaced online showing how an unnamed bank hid huge piles of the new Naira notes in its vault.
Since the commencement of old cash withdrawals from circulation, customers, traders, marketers, and the general public have largely been unable to access the newly redesigned N1000, N500 and N200 notes across the country.
This is in spite of assurances by the apex bank that enough new notes have been deployed to the commercial banks.
Some bank branches are reported to be hoarding the cash in one form or the other.
The hardship has led to a number of people going berserk and a few dropping dead due to exhaustion from long queues at the ATMs or in the banking halls.
The latest video just emerging this Saturday evening shows another strategy by some banks to cause more hardship.
The new notes were hidden behind old notes in the bank whose name is not made public yet.
In the video, bank workers could be seen shifting some old notes from the vault to reveal the hidden new notes and how they were stacked from behind.
An official could be heard in the background of the video demanding that the new Naira notes she had seen be loaded into the banks’ Automated Teller Machines (ATM) so that customers can have access to money.
