The footage of the battle that rescued some students and a teacher of the Federal Government College (FGC), Birnin Yauri, Kebbi State has emerged.
Troops of the Nigerian Army engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel in Rijau forest killing scores of the them, leaving a few soldiers injured while some students were let go.
The Bandits stormed the school at about 12:30am on Thursday and engaged the mobile policemen on guard at the school premises in a gun duel that left one of the policemen dead.
An unspecified number of students were whisked away with some teachers. Giving an update on the kidnap incident on Friday, the Kebbi State Police Command speaking through its spokesman, DSP Nafi’u Abubakar said it is yet to confirm the number of students abducted.
He denied media reports that said that 50 students were kidnapped from the school and asked the public and the media to confirm information before going public.
He also promised to keep the media updated as events unfold.
On Friday, Rabiu Kamba, a special adviser to the Kebbi State governor, Abubakar Bagudu said that 8 students and 1 teacher out of the captives have been rescued.
The rescued students were as at Friday, in the custody of the military awaiting reunion with their families.
The gun battle that rescued them shows soldiers taking down some of the bandits who were fleeing with the students on motorbikes.
