Bees Attacked Mourners at Alaafin of Oyo’s Burial

Some mourners who thronged the Palace to mourn the death of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi on Saturday are reported to have been attacked by bees.

According to the Punch, incident happened around 10:00 am after Islamic clerics arrived the palace in preparation for the burial of the monarch.


Reports say that a policeman, some sympathizers, mourners, traditional rulers, religious leaders were some of the victims attacked by the bees.

Eyewitnesses add that to ward off the attacking bees, residents in the open space in the palace who were affected, plucked tree branches and leaves to drive them away.

The victims were assisted to drive away the bees and removed some of the insects which got stuck on their bodies.

The 45th Alaafin of Oyo died late on Friday at the Afe Babalola Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti.

The corpse of the monarch was brought to Oyo town very early on Saturday and traditional rites were carried out before burial.
