Bello El Rufai apologises for his worrisome rant about gang-raping someone’s mother, He also withdrew his shocking statements about a Nigerian ethnic group.
The young man had condemned President Donald Trumps leadership in America’s initial slow response to the coronavirus crisis.
In the event leading to his rant, someone cautioned him to correct Nigeria’s leadership before looking elsewhere. Taking to a series of angry tweets, Bello responded by daring to gang-rape the person’s mother. He also made several derogatory remarks about the Igbos.
His mother nudged him on but later recanted when, apparently, she took a second look at his tweets.
However, in a series of tweets today, Young El Rufai apologises for his outburst, insisting that it was done in the heat of the moment. He also added that his action was was alien to his family values.
His apology
“A few days ago, I mad a statement that was wrong, unbecoming and contrary to the values on which I was raised. I wish to withdraw my statement and apologise to the gentleman concerned for the hurtful comment. I also apologise for appearing to attack an entire ethic group for the misdeed of one person.
“I regret the sexual innuendo in the private message and apologise unreservedly for it. I wish to state very strongly that the statement was made during the heat of the moment and I wish to put on the record that I do not condone sexual violence.
According to him, he has learnt some lessons from the episode, more so in his quest to becoming a better person. He also used the occasion to apologise to his mum.
In his words, “I certainly do not believe that there can be any justification for gender-based crimes. I am learning from this episode in the continuous journey of emerging as a better person. I have apologised to my mother in person.”
Young El Rufai pointed out that he is one of many children of a family with high values. He also used the occasion to thank his friends and members of the public who pointed out the flaws in his rant.
