There was pandemonium in a community in Ondo State during a carnival when 2 monarchs and their loyalists clashed.
The crisis which turned bloody due to a long standing rivalry between two monarchs recorded a yet to be ascertained number of casualties.
The unfortunate incident happened in the ancient community of Ikare-Akoko, Akoko North East Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday.
Reports monitored in Daily Post say that youths from the Olukare faction were allegedly denied access to the free-for-all carnival by youths from the Iyometa neighbourhood.
The incident resulted in the Olukare youths disrupting the carnival.
During the bl00dy fracas, about six youths were said to have been seriously injured.
The rampaging youths allegedly engaged themselves with gunfire, a development that forced residents to scamper to safety.
A source stated that many shops had to be closed down due to the incident.
According to sources, “When the Olukare youths wanted to use the place for the carnival on Tuesday, the Owa Ale people stopped them and there was crisis. The shooting was much that the town became deserted.
“This morning (Wednesday) the youths mobilised for another attack and the shootings continue. Many shops have been closed down but the police have intervened.”
Confirming the incident, Ondo Police spokesman, Funmilayo Odunlami, said the police operatives have restored calm and normalcy to the community.
