Blackberry phone brand have ceased to exist from the 4th of January, 2022 as services running on the operating system and services are no longer supported.
The development brings to an end, the era of the mobile phone which was widely used across the world at the onset of of mobile telephony.
Bloomberg, Waterloo, formerly known as Research in Motion, whose signature handset in the 1990s came to embody working on the move, said that handsets running its in-house software “will no longer be expected to reliably function” starting from Tuesday.
The exit of Blackberry which was first announced in 2020, ends the phone brand that was widely accepted because of its reliability and security.
The market for Blackberry began crashing after Apple and Android started releasing phones which gained quick access in phone outlets.
Blackberry stopped making its own smartphones in 2016, shifting to a software-only business and licensing its brand and services to TCL Communication Technology Holdings Limited, which continued to release devices until its deal ran out in 2020.
The TCL devises were powered by Alphabet In’s Android OS and will be supported until August.
The company said that, “These devices will lack the ability to receive over the air provisioning updates and as such, this functionality will no longer be expected to reliably function, including for data, phone calls, SMS and 9-1-1 functionality. Applications will also have limited functionality.”
