The Federal government has ordered all telecommunications companies to block every Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) that have no National Identification Number (NIN).
It also asked network operators to ask their subscribers to provide valid NIN to update their records.
The exercise is scheduled to last 2 weeks effective 16th December and end on the 30th of December.
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami has instructed the operators to suspend SIM registrations for now.
The directive also states that failure to comply with the exercise would result in the SIMs being blocked.
The President’s Personnel Assistant on New Media corroborated the directive and advised the procedure for getting the NIN.
Ahmad added that “As the NCC gave telecommunications operators (MTN, Glo, Airtel, 9Mobile and others) two weeks to block all SIM cards that are not linked with the National Identity Numbers (NIN), if already enrolled, dial *346# to retrieve your NIN, as we await details from NCC/telcoms. SHARE!”
