The body guard to Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari is dead.
Warrant Officer Lawal Mato died today, Tuesday 21st, 2020.
According to the Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity and the Official Spokesperson to the president, Mallam Garba Shehu, Matto died of complications from Diabetes. He had battled the disease for over 3 years.
Reports say he has worked with the president as body guard for many years, even spanning his 2015 election period.
Garba Shehu describes him as “a very thorough, trustworthy and dependable solider who carried out his duties with diligence and focus.”
Shehu prayed Allah to ease the passage of his soul to paradise and grant his family and the people of his state, Jigawa the fortitude to bear the loss.
Warrant officer Mato was restored as body guard to Buhari by Umaru Musa Yar Adua when Yar Adua took office as president.
He took a leave of absence for the past 3 years because his illness.
