Following an alleged bomb attack on an Abuja-Kaduna train, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has suspended its service on that route indefinitely.
The suspension was announced in a notice to customers on its booking website where the Corporation disclosed that it was taking measures to ensure passenger safety.
It added that the service will be restored as soon as possible and that passengers will be notified.
The statement by NRC:
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, train services have been immediately suspended for the safety of our dear passengers.
“Efforts are in place to restore service. Further information would follow immediately the service is restored.”
The service suspension is said to be linked to the recent attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train by unknown gunmen.
Former Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central had narrated on twitter how bandits on Wednesday, attacked the Abuja-Kaduna railway with an explosive and opened fire on the train, targeting the engine driver and the tank.
He added that he was on board the train again on Thursday when it ran over another explosive damaged rail track and it took a miracle for them to escape.
