
Yusuf Alimi, the boy who stood in front of Peter Obi’s convoy during his 2023 Presidential campaign in Lagos, has been remanded in Kirikiri prison over alleged theft.
In 2023, Alimi rose to fame after the picture of his encounter with Peter Obi went viral.

As captured in the picture, Alimi made his way to the front of the 2023 Labour Party’s Presidential candidate with his outstretched arms as Obi gazed at him.
According to a post shared on X on Monday, was arraigned before Orege court, Ajegunle area of Lagos on the 27th of March.
His case was adjourned till the 28th of April while judge allegedly remanded him in Kirikiri prison.
Sympathizers, however, claimed the boy was framed up for not sharing the money he got during the campaign.
According to the post on X, Alimi was allegedly apprehended on his way from work by some guys in the street.
The guys took him to the police station where he was accused of being among those stealing and fighting in the area.
Meanwhile, Alimi’s plight has caught the attention of human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, who in a post on his X handle on Tuesday held that the boy is innocent.
Sowore vowed to remove him from prison as he requested the details of his family and lawyers.
“Given the boy’s apparent innocence, immediate rescue efforts are necessary to remove him from prison; if anyone has access to his lawyers and family, kindly notify us at your earliest convenience.” Sowore wrote.
