There is total blackout in parts of the country due to the collapse of some national power grids especially in the northern states.
In the last couple of weeks, there has been total or near total blackout in many places.
In response to public outcry, two of the country’s electricity distribution companies sent separate messages on Wednesday confirming the collapse and apologising for the inconvenience experienced.
Kaduna Electric appealed to its customers via its twitter handle saying the power situation is due to the collapsed grid.
It reassured them that power would be restored once the grid is fixed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria team.
Kaduna Electric@Kadunaelectric· “The collapse occured at about 11:01 am this morning. Power supply shall be restored across our franchise as soon as the grid is restored by the Transmission Company of Nigeria team.
We sincerely apologise for all inconveniences being suffered. Signed Abdulazeez Abdullahi Head, Corporate Communication. 12/05/2021.
On its part, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company Plc, in a text message sent to its customers informed them that “There is a partial system collapse on the national grid. Our TCN partners are working to restore supply immediately. Please bear with us.”
The grid is currently managed by government-owned Transmission Company of Nigeria. However, it continues to suffer system collapse over the years due to lack of spinning reserve that should avert such occurrences.
On Sunday, the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) announced its decision to sell 5 power generation companies constructed under the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP).
