President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, suspended the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Hadiza Bala Usman.
Usman was appointed in 2016 following the termination of the second term of the then Managing Director, Habib Abdullahi.
No reason has been given by the presidency for the suspension of Hadiza Bala Usman who was only appointed for another 5-year tenure in January 2021.
An insider source who is said to be an aide to the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi said that the relationship between his principal and Usman has been frosty in recent times.
The source said that the Minister has also been complaining about the the overbearing nature of the NPA MD.
According to him, “Yes, the MD was suspended earlier on Thursday but the Minister will give full details on Friday.
“The Minister and some members of staff of the ministry are presently in Los for a programme and he is scheduled to brief the press on the issue.
The source added that, “No reason was given for the suspension but I I can confirm to you that she has been suspended.”
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved Hadiza Usman’s suspension and approved the appointment of the Authority’s Director of Finance, Mohammed Koko to take over as Managing Director in acting capacity.
