Lawmakers in the Edo State House of Assembly have impeached Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor.
The impeachment comes after Shaibu declared his intention to vie for the post of governor, a move opposed by his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki.
After the Assembly notified Shaibu of the impeachment move against him, a panel was set up to investigate the issues and hear from both parties, Edo House of Assembly and Shaibu.
However, Shaibu did not appear before the panel in the last few sittings neither did he send any representative whereas the Assembly was represented.
The impeachment today, followed the adoption of the report of the 7-man investigation panel set up by the Assembly to probe allegations of misconduct against him.
