A former Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Jummai Aisha Al-Hassan, also known as Mama Taraba is dead.
Reports say she died in a hospital in Cairo, Egypt on Friday, today. She was aged 61.
Officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State also confirmed the report to newsmen.
Mama Taraba was a Minister as well as a Senator representing Taraba North Senatorial District.
Al Hassan was also the Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Taraba State in the 2015 general elections.
She resigned her ministerial appointment to contest the governorship seat in 2019 under the United Democratic Party in the 2019 general elections.
Mama Taraba attended the School of Basic Studies, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria for her preliminary studies between 1977 and 1979
She started work as a Magistrate Grade II in April 1988 in the Kaduna State Judiciary.
Hajia Al-Hassan later proceeded to the Fijian Bar where she enrolled as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of Fiji in 1991.
While in Fiji, she had her services transferred from the Kaduna State Judiciary to the FCT Judiciary in 1991 as Magistrate Grade 1.
A few years after in 1997, she was appointed the first female Attorney General of her State, Taraba, in 1997 and later as the first female Chief Registrar of the High Court of the FCT in December 2003.
She retired from the FCT on the 31st of December, 2009.
