The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB), today announced that it has cancelled the use of email for the Unified Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) registration.
Prof Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB Registrar made the announcement while speaking with journalists, today, 14th of April in Abuja.
He said that candidates will have the following options to access their profile during registration:
“As from Thursday, 15th April 2021, Candidates will no longer be required to provide any email address during registration.
“The use of Mobile App on the candidate’s phone and on the 55019 option (being designed) for example admission status checking, will be used for registration, admission, etc on their profile.
“Printing of examination slip (Notification) or Result Notification slip or ticketing can be done anywhere using the candidate’s JAMB registration number only.
Oloyede added that candidates will provide their email addresses only after the registration deadline and applications have been declared closed by JAMB through the Mobile App on a candidate’s registered phone.
Explaining further, the he said that, “The email is typed twice for correctness (Email addresses will be entered twice for validation and prevention of typographical errors.
Ishaq Oloyede stated further that the new measure is to ensure that no candidate’s information is leaked to dubious Cyber Cafe operators and other criminal elements who take advantage of loopholes to steal passwords and carry out dubious activities.
He said that the criminals are known to steal email passwords when unsuspecting candidates are doing their registration.
The JAMB boss added that a candidate’s mobile phone is now the only tool to register for the examination.
Oloyede added that the examination board has phased out the use of cash for any transaction in the Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres owned by JAMB. He also said that the use of Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards is now allowed.
The move is to frustrate touts who hang around JAMB CBT centres as well as prevent illegal charges. He added however, that candidates that are keen on using cash as means of payment can visit privately owned centres for registration and other activities.
