A member of the House of Representatives, Jonathan Gaza has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The latest defection comes a day after four members of the Peoples Democratic Party in the House of Representatives dumped the party for the ruling APC.
The four lawmakers, Ahmed Bakura, Bello Hassan Shinkafi, Suleiman Gumi and Ahmed Shehu, all from Zamfara State blamed the crisis in the PDP for their defection.
Citing the crisis in the Zamfara State chapter of the PDP, Suleiman Gumi said the instability led to the dissolution of the state chapter by the national leadership of the party.
He insisted that it is their main reason for defecting to the APC.
Jonathan Gaza’s letter was delivered to the lower chambers on Wednesday and read on the floor of the house during plenary by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila.
On the floor of the House as observers were the Nasarawa State Governor, Abdulahi Sule and two of his predecessors, Sen Tanko Almakura and Sen Abdulahi Adamu.
Excited, Speaker Gbajabiamila could not help but mock the minority caucus over the current defections. Throwing banters at them, he joked, “Where is Hon Ndudi Elumelu (the minority leader), is he not going to raise a point of order ?”
